Herbert Hideo Awazu, 72, of Papaaloa died March 4, 2013 at his home. Born April 6, 1940, in Ookala, he was a retired chief generator operator for Hamakua Sugar Company, part-time custodian at Laupahoehoe School and member of Papaaloa Hongwanji Mission.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire, no koden (monetary gifts), and no flowers.

He is survived by brothers, Charles (Amy) Awazu, of Los Angeles, Calif., Paul Awazu, of Honolulu; sisters, Eiko Fujino, of Paauilo, Mae Mayhall, of Big Springs, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
